Directions

Filling your Spa: Once you've had your source water tested by your local dealer and have protected your spa from sunlight, heat and chemicals with a quick application of EZ Gloss, it's time to turn on the water.

  1. As your spa is filling, it is a good time to inspect your filter.  If your filter is not clean use EZ Filter Cleaner to ensure your spa will perform at its maximum efficiency.  For best results, soak your filter overnight.
  2. Now is also the time to add 8 oz. of Metal-X per 400 gallons of water.  Metal-X prevents cloudy water and staining when metals are present in your source water.
  3. Let the water circuclate for 1 hour before adding any other chemicals.  Metal-X should be added each time you refill your spa.

Balancing the Water:

  • Once your spa is full, its time to balance the water.
  • Keeping your spa water in balance will help you avoid many problems that can occur. The three most important factors in balancing spa water are pH, total alkalinity and calcium hardness.  You can easily test the pH and total alkalinity levels in your spa with the 4-Way Test Strips included in your Robarb Spa Specialties Start Up Kit.

pH:

  • It is critical that the pH of your spa water stay within the recommended range of 7.2 to 7.8.
  • Any fluctuations outside this range can cause spa water to be corrosive or scale forming.
  • The pH is easily adjusted by using Robarb Spa pH Up or Spa pH Down.
  • Once your pH is stabilized, use Perfect pH to lock in the balance.
  • This will maintain the pH balance until you drain and refill your spa.

Total Alkalinity:

  • Total alkalinity is a buffer that prevents the pH levels from changing as additional products are added to the water.
  • The proper total alkalinity range is 80-120 ppm.
  • Any fluctuation outside this range can result in corrosion, cloudy water or scaling.
  • When the total alkalinity needs adjustment, use Alkalinity Up or Spa pH Down.

Calcium Hardness:

  • Spa water requires some calcium to be present.
  • The recommended range for calcium is between 150-400 ppm.  Calcium levels outside this range can cause scale build-up, foaming or corrosion to equipment and plumbing.
  • If you find your water has low levels of calcium, use Calcium Hardness Up to maintain the correct level.

Adding a Sanitizer:

  • Using an effective sanitizer to control and prevent harmful bacteria growth is an important part of any spa water maintenance system.
  • No matter which system you choose, spa water must contain a proper level of chlorine or bromine to keep the water sanitary.
  • Robarb offers 3 different sanitizing systems to ensure sparkling clean water for both chlorine and bromine sanitized spas.

Brom A Spa:

  • This two-part bromine disinfection system provides an in-spa bromine reserve with Brom A Spa Liquid bromine Salts Solution which is easily and quickly activated with the addition of Spa Shok.

Bromchem:

  • These slowly, evenly dissolving brominating tablets provide continuous protection and are conveniently inserted into the Robarb Deluxe Floater for hands-free, effective sanitation.

Sani-Spa:

  • Sani-Spa is concentrated and stabilized granular chlorine specifically developed for disinfecting spa water.

Shocking and Clarifying:

  • Shocking is the process of removing organic materials such as body oils, cosmetics and lotions from the water.
  • If these materials are left to build-up, spa water will become cloudy.
  • Using Spa Shok will oxidize the organics that can cause dull water, foul odors or skin irritation.
  • No matter which sanitizer you use, it will always be necessary to "chock" your spa on a routine basis.
  • Using a shock increases the effectiveness of your sanitizer and makes the water crystal clear.
  • To achieve best results, shock your spa water after each use or at least once per week, whichever is more frequent.
