Hello! ProTeam Metal Magic is used to prevent and remove metal stains from pool water. It will have no benefit whatsoever in reducing your alkalinity rate. What specific product were you using to lower your alkalinity? Once we know the exact product you were using, we should be better able to help you out.

Does Chlorine Level need to be low before using this product?

I was wondering if the chlorine level had to be low before using this product? I have well water and after adding the chlorine tabs, my water turned a greenish color. The water was clear but had a greenish tint and when running the pump the filter is a rusty looking color.

Hello Kristy! It seems like the chlorine has oxidized with the metals in the water, turning it green. Your chlorine does not have to be low to use this product. What kind of filter are you using?

Well water turned amber color.

Hi, After filling my pool with my well water and a day in the sun my water turned amber in color. I did add Metal Magic the following evening as directed from my local pool store. My water is still amber colored after two days however alot of metal has fallen to the bottom of the pool. I am using the the standard A type filter that came with the pump. Is there a better filter to use? How long should this initial treatment last? It is a 6400 gal. pool. Thanks

Hello! What this product does is take the metals and clump them together to be collected. It sounds like your filter isn't filtering out the metals properly, causing the amber color. You may need to consider a better filter. If you would like, we could recommend another filter for you. We would recommend vacuuming out the metal at the bottom of your pool and seeing if that clears some of the amber color.

The filter with the best combination of performance, ease of maintenance, and cost is a cartridge filter. According to our calculations, you would need a cartridge filter with at least 24 sq. ft. of filter area. We would recommend the Hayward Star Clear with 50 sq. ft. of filter area: Hayward Star Clear Filter. It will give you more filter are than you need for better performance and less cleaning required.

When to add chlorine, etc
Author: Jaye

I just put 2 bottles of metal magic in my 24' above ground pool filled with iron rich well water. The plain water looked cloudy white but is getting a slightly green tinge [it took four hot days to fill the pool]. What can I expect during the process and how long does it take? [I am assuming backwashing the filter many times] how do I know when it is safe to add chlorine? My local pool company does not have a way to test iron content : (

You will be able to add chlorine to the pool immediately. You will want to use the stick or tab form of chlorine so the chlorine level is slowly raised. Do not shock or use granular chlorine. If you have a sand filter you will need to use a filtering agent or you will never be able to filter the iron out of your pool. Bioguard Sparkle Up works well for this. click here

Hi ~ I put Metal Magic in our pool a couple of months ago due to metal stains. The water has been quite cloudy ever since; we have a Hayward cartridge filter. I've vacuumed the pool periodically and cleaned the cartridge. Any suggestions?

Hi Ann! We would recommend double shocking your pool and running your filter continously. You will also want to use a Filter Aid along with it.

If you have a soft swim system, then the BioGuard Soft Swim Filter Aid is okay to use. If you do not have a soft swim system, we would recommend against using it.

Tech Specs
Chemical Type: Metal Control - Prevention, Metal Control - Remover
Brand: Proteam Pool
Directions
  1. For pools with iron, copper, manganese or other metals present in the water, apply over entire pool surface with filter system operating.  For best results use 1 quart of ProTeam Metal Magic per 10,000 gallons of water to remove stains, prevent plating and restore water clarity.
  2. Regular use of ProTeam Metal Magic will keep pool water clean and the pool shell and plumbing in good condition.  For stain prevention use one quart per 20,000 gallons if testing indicated metals above 3 ppm, or use 3 oz. per 10,000 gallons per week if pool has a tendency to show increasing metal content in water.
  3. Do not add more than recommended dosage.  For best results use in early afternoon or evening with water temperature above 60 degrees, and run pump for 24 hours.
  4. Once dissolved, metals are transported to the filter where they can be removed by backwashing or filter cleaning.
