Pool Filters come in three varieties. Sand filters are the easiest to maintain, filtering water through sand, but are the least effective at actually cleaning the water. Cartridge filters require a little more maintenance, cleaning the cartridge, but provide better water filtration. D.E. Filters or Diatomaceous Earth filters offer by far the best filtration, often clearing cloudy pools in under 24 hours, but require slightly more maintenance, as the D.E. powder is replaced through the skimmer after every backwash.
