In order to select the the right heater for your pool, you must first calculate the number of gallons in your pool. Once you have this number, you must then determine how large a temperature rise is needed (10 degrees, 20 degrees, etc.). After these two figures are calculated, just follow the simple formula below:
Pool Gallons x 8.33 x Temperature Rise Desired = BTU's needed
BTU's needed / Heating Time (Hours) = Proper Heater Size (BTU's)
Once you know the size of the heater you want, you just need to choose which type of heater to use. If gas, then you must choose between natural gas or propane. Natural gas is the better choice due to its lower cost and availability, while propane is perfect for areas without natural gas. If you want to heat your pool without enlarging your carbon footprint, then solar heaters are the way to go.
